Lengths are discussed individually depending on timber size.

How does calibrated timber differ from standard sawn timber?

Calibrated timber is more precisely cut than standard sawn timber, as it is planed on all four sides using a four-sided planer.

Calibrated timber is rarely ever undried. Since its purpose is precise dimensions, and undried wood often warps while drying, there is little sense in calibrating green timber.

A wooden construct made from calibrated timber is more stable and precise, therefore of higher quality.

Where is calibrated timber used?

Calibrated timber is mainly used in the construction of timber frame houses. Constructing a frame is much easier when the dimensions are precise. Calibrated timber is also used for roofing, especially when installing sheet metal coverings. In this case, it is much easier to form a smooth base and avoid issues like metal clattering. This wood can also be used for finishing, such as for fence planks, where dimensional accuracy affects the external aesthetic qualities of the wooden elements.

Graded classes of calibrated timber

Calibrated timber can also be graded (sorted according to strength classes). This means that the strength properties of each piece are assessed based on resistance to bending, tension, compression, as well as parameters such as elasticity and density. In Lithuania, calibrated timber is most commonly found in two strength classes: C-16 and C-24. Each piece is marked with a corresponding strength grade label.

Technology of calibrated timber production

Calibrated timber, to meet its specifications, must have a moisture content of not more than 18-20%. Strength grading is done visually. Calibrated timber is typically made from pine and spruce.

High-quality calibrated structural timber from the manufacturer.

If you are looking for timber for construction (roof, walls, supporting structures), you need calibrated timber. Industrially dried timber can be used for both indoor and outdoor projects.
